The West-Holland Region, comprised of the cities of The Hague, Leiden, Delft and Zoetermeer and around thirty surrounding communities (over 1.5 million citizens), is a strategically located hub of international business and diplomatic activity.
The region is the core of the Randstad linking the Netherlands' financial center, Amsterdam, with Europe's largest port and distribution network, Rotterdam. Two-thirds of the foreign companies have an establishment in the Randstad.
At the heart of the region is the City of The Hague, which lies on the west coast of the Netherlands. Schiphol International Airport, one of Europe's best airports for passenger and cargo travel, is just thirty minutes from The Hague's business district. The distance between Schiphol and Leiden, a university city just north of The Hague is even smaller: 15 minutes by direct train connection or by car.
