Why Us
Dundee is a thriving regional centre in the east of Scotland, a city with a diverse economy and a wealth of new investment. Growing industries include biotechnology, high-tech manufacturing, retail and customer services, combined with an impressive level of investment in infrastructure and public facilities.
The aptly titled City of Discovery is now a worldwide centre of excellence in cancer research and diabetes. The opening of world-renowned architect Frank Gerhy's first UK building in the Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre at Ninewells Hospital has put a major focus on the city and its expert healthcare. Its young computer games gurus are already supplying electronic entertainment for consoles globally.
A rolling programme of investment in the city continues with the University of Dundee in the midst of a £200 million campus redevelopment; Dundee City Council investing £270 million in the redevelopment of the cities waterfront; US pharmaceutical giant, Wyeth, investing £50 million; and a £50 million pound extension to Lend Lease's Overgate Shopping Centre creating 40 new retail units. The Alliance Trust, founded in 1888 in Dundee, is receiving a £1.95 million Regional Selective Assistance grant from the Scottish Executive and is investing a further £12.5m to fund its ambitious expansion programme over the next three years and creating an additonal 160 jobs.
