Sector Strengths

Industrial Machinery, Equipment & Tools

A 52-story building, destined to be the third largest in New York City, is rising on fabricated steel box beams and plate girders made by Apex Industries of Moncton. An innovative product that monitors underground movement around the world was developed by Measurand, a Fredericton-based research company. And, all over North America, signs designed and manufactured at Pattison Sign Group’s Edmundston operation call attention to brands like McDonald’s, Jaguar, and Telus Mobility.

When it comes to Advanced Manufacturing, New Brunswick is second to none. Metalworking, plastics and rubber, electronics, machining, telecommunications, energy, environmental, transportation, aerospace and defence industries are thriving here. With hundreds of companies using high-tech processes and new technologies, and manufacturers holding ISO, ASB and other internationally recognized certifications, New Brunswick has the workforce credentials and an innovation-oriented environment to compete strongly in the global marketplace.

We’re home to world leaders like GTECH, the manufacturer and distributor of high technology gaming solutions, Saeplast, one of the world’s largest rotomolding companies, and Irving Oil, which operates Canada’s largest refinery in Saint John. Irving was the first Canadian company to receive the prestigious “North American Refiner of the Year” award by Hart Publications.

These innovators realize New Brunswick is an east-coast gateway to the largest market in North America. We’re the air cargo hub of Atlantic Canada and home to some of Canada’s largest trucking firms. We offer year-round ports and our largest is closer to Europe than any port on the U.S.Eastern Seaboard. We also share language, business, legal and financial practices, with most of the continent.

Software & IT services

TIME Magazine named the city of Saint John, New Brunswick one of the top four centres for ICT in Canada. Fredericton-based Remsoft® creates the world’s leading software for sustainable, spatial
forest management planning. And, when Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computers, had a chance to tour around, he remarked how New Brunswick reminded him of his youth in Silicon Valley and a place he could move back to.

In a world where Information and Communications Technology is moving business forward at an unprecedented pace, New Brunswick has a bold vision and a clear-cut commitment to advancing our ICT industry. We were the first in North America to deploy a 100% digital switching network and the first to have a province-wide fiber optic network.

Today, we can lay claim to the most extensive broadband coverage per capita in North America – no other jurisdiction is more connected. Building on the phenomenal success of our customer contact centre industry, we have the culture and environment to support a collaborative, knowledge-based economy, nurturing ingenuity and innovation.

Building on the phenomenal success of our customer contact centre industry, we have defined clusters which include e-Learning, e-Government, Geomatics, Software Development, Security, Aerospace & Defense, Business Process Outsourcing, Gaming and Animation, Wireless Communications, Technical Help Desks and Systems Integration and Support. And, we have the culture and environment to support a collaborative, knowledge-based economy, attracting ingenuity and nurturing innovative, skilled workers.
